Medical Tourism / Chiang Mai Hospital.

Why Medical Tourism for Thailand?

I had the rare opportunity to interview (with inside pictures) one of the many hospitals in town and ask why go to Chiang Mai Hospital?

Recognizably it’s viewed as a very small hospital in town but unknowingly with an enormous list of undiscovered features and benefits.  The hospital prides itself on lightning fast service at a remarkably very low price.

It’s also a government insurance hospital too, meaning patients with GI the hospital facilitates all the billing to the insurance companies, no out of pocket monies from the insured.

Also they have an additional designated department for Chinese and Thai medicine with Gua Sha Therapy, cupping, acupuncture and more. (Pics)

The ER department is right at the entrance with the most friendliness and energetic medical team one could possibly ask for, and have unexpectedly gained the today’s reality title of the masters in motorbike accident recovery.

Rooms start at 2880b/nt ($85) include meals and around the clock nursing care.  My last blood test that I did at the hospital cost me $10.00 /  total visit including the doctors consultation.

Speaking further with the Hospitals Director (Dr Banchar) he said their in-house dentistry department was famously the first in town to offer a Dental department at a local hospital, to include now eight (8) on staff dentists and in recognition of Dr Krivit their honorary department head.  Eighty percent (80%) of the patients are foreigners.

Dr Banchar coincidentally is also the retirement home medical certification instructor for those seeking to become an authorized retirement home facility.

One of the unique separations from the other hospitals is their focus in training patients about the importance of organic diets and a hands-on visit to an actual organic farm in the area.  The hospital takes on the leadership role of one’s personal diet coach, educating and aiding towards a sustainable life changing way of life.

Safe Travels
Is Thailand safe?

For the people who’s never been to Thailand this question seems to always come up. Is Thailand safe?

My first experience was while parking my motorbike at a shopping mall in Udon Thani, all the helmets were just resting on the handle bars for the taking, no locks.  Looking further people just leave all their backpacks and personal items all in plain view.

At one time I lost my drivers license and to my elation someone actually took the time and paid for a stamp to mail it back to me.

There’s been multiple times that I’ve forgotten my backpack containing my camera at Starbucks and restaurants, only to come back an hour later after realizing my stupidity forgetfulness and find it’s still just sitting there in view.

To really cement my opinion of the safety for Thailand was while driving in Chiang mai, I saw my first accident and the driver immediately got out and wai to the other driver for his mistake.  Observing more, It’s common practice to wai other drivers for cutting one off, clumsy lane changes, or intervening with another person’s drive.

The people in Thailand are impressively kind and thoughtful towards one another.  That dark side seen of other countries is really nonexistent in Thailand, you can really witness it daily.

So what about walking at night.  Again people are just out enjoying the nights, there’s never been a time I’ve ever seen where people or individuals are gathered together out looking for trouble.  There’s not those sort of people in Thailand,  if anything you can expect a smile when crossing another’s path late at night, but typically people just keep to themselves in the evening hours.
